Russell Streur - Three Poems

No rain in sight
Out of reach
Crisis festers
Signs of strain
Risk of combat
Trying to escape
Keeping secrets
A desperate impulse
A vast abandoned warehouse

“These feuds change like the weather,”
the bald man said.
“Anything can trigger anything.”

Carnival barkers
Years of resistance.

Secret police
Brute force
Deterrent effect
Doomed lovers
Human costs
The pivotal moment
Experiment out of control
Predictable results
System topples

“The data got messed up,”
the witness said.
“It wasn’t an accident.”

Group think
More locks.

Palace coup
Resistance in Jerusalem
A good run
Past and future
Crisis deepens
Little hope
Comedy of errors
Resident evil
Echoes of the revolution

“What they expected to see, they saw,”
the artist said.
“Then they left.”

New line of fashion
Famine next.
