Douglas Polk - 1 Post

Small Town Summer Afternoon

The sun froze in the sky,
the day eternal,
with no end in sight,
the swimming hole north of town,
filled with young bodies,
boys bare-chested in jeans,
marking territory,
while girls attired to highlight nature’s curves,
sunbath on the hood of the cars,
a car radio blasting one summer anthem after another,
as Fall plans are discussed and some times dreaded,
both sexes mapping strategies,
anxiously awaiting the far away night.
